How to Play Backgammon Online: Download Software

The Internet has provided a platform for backgammon players across the world to come together and play for fun or for reputation. But in many ways, playing on a computer is very much different from playing live when everything is reduced to a point and click system. So where do we start when we want to play backgammon online.

When you're already hooked up with an updated computer and fast Internet connection, you can play backgammon online. And more often than not, downloading backgammon software is much preferred as opposed to playing from a browser.

First of all, choose a safe and reliable site and download their backgammon software. Depending on its size and how fast your connection is, downloading can take from less than ten minutes to an hour. The good thing about it is that you only have to do it once and almost all of what's offered online is free.

You'll be asked to register on the server that the software is running on. This will take less than two minutes online and it wouldn't be a hassle because it will open a separate window where you only need to enter a preferred username, password, and your email address.

When you've completed the download, choose "run" and it will automatically be added to your program files (or anywhere you choose to open it from) and a short-cut icon will show up on your desktop.

Double-click on that icon to open the program and click on "connect" to play backgammon online. A list of players who are also connected to the server will appear on your screen and you'll see who's ready and who's currently engaged in a match.

You can invite other players and they can invite you to a match as well. There are several toggle options that you can choose from too. These include "ready" which means you're ready to play and "auto roll" which means the dice will automatically roll after your opponent confirms their move.

When you have a fast Internet connection and updated computer, you can go ahead and play backgammon online. Downloading software is a one-time step and after you log in and connect to its server, you can invite, be invited and even watch matches that are going on too. And since it's a point and click system, finalizing a move when you play backgammon online only entails clicking the dice. But how you do on Internet backgammon matches, well, practice makes perfect so the sooner you download software and play backgammon online, the quicker you'll get used to playing on a computer and see how you fare on Internet matches.
