Improper Conduct In Playing Backgammon
Experienced backgammon players have a good knowledge already for the right manners in playing the game and in dealing with fellow opponent. There are still some players who don't practice them despite knowing them. The following are some of the common unethical behavior for a backgammon player.
1. Never point to the opponent's roll that is considered lucky while the game is going on and even after the game is over. It will mean that you attribute the winning break to luck which can be insulting to the other player because it can imply that the skills he have did not matter at all. Even in instances where the opponents are surprisingly getting lucky breaks or rolls never point it out because it's also another way to show that you are a bad sport. As much as there are many great rolls any backgammon player will also get bad dice rolls just as much. It is still the skills of the backgammon player that matters in the end because the moves are the important aspect of the game.
2.Never make any remark when the other player gets a bad dice roll and never give any remark when you are also getting lucky dice rolls because it can be a capricious gesture which can also be very irritating for people trying to keenly observe the game.
3.Never handle the cubes used for doubling if you are not going to make a double move. This can be a way for cheating whether the player doing it is aware or not. It can be a way of soliciting a reaction from the opponent.
4. Never give the dice a roll not unless the opponent has already gotten his own dice. Making the roll before the table is clear can create some confusion which may make that roll useless because the other player may not have finished. The immediate roll can also be unfair to the other player who will have the tendency to rush his decision in playing his game.
5.Never give a laugh or even a short giggle when the other player had an unlucky roll. Do not also make such a loud happy remark when getting a good dice roll. These gestures can be considered childish.
6.Be considerate in taking time making a decision. When faced with a simple decision giving yourself more than a minute would be inconsiderate. There are however games that are really considered long because the players are both experts but still taking too long to make every decision or move is not a good practice even on the games played online.
7.Never use the cellphone while playing or listen to music through a music player. Be courteous to give full attention and such things can be distracting.
8.When ceasing to play any further and then wanting to copy the positions made on the board for personal study later on make sure to ask the other player first.
There are still some players who get to make such offensive or bothersome manners. These are just some reminders so that backgammon enthusiasts or players can be aware to be mindful that such actions can be deemed improper and can be distracting.
